IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State senior Chris Perry has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for competition from Dec. 10 through Dec. 15, where he earned his 99th and 100th career victories on Saturday. The honor is the first of Perry's career at Oklahoma State.
“It's always good to wrestle well one week and get recognized,” Perry said. “But I have to stay focused and have the same result every week in the room, on the mat and in my lifestyle.”
The nation's second-ranked 174 pounder scored nine dual points for OSU and 19 individual match points in the back-to-back duals.
The Stillwater, Okla., native started the day with an 18-2 technical fall over Northern Colorado's Josh Van Tine in 5:10. He picked up four takedowns, three three-point near falls and an escape to end it early. The Cowboys went on to shut out the Bears, 48-0.
Perry and the Pokes traveled to Laramie, Wyo., later that day to take on the Wyoming Cowboys. Perry was welcomed into the Oklahoma State wrestling 100-win club after he defeated Brent Havlik with an 11-3 major decision to earn his 100th career win. OSU went on to defeat Wyoming, 30-6.
Perry has collected six bonus-point victories on the year, three technical falls, two falls and one major decision.
