Cowboy Baseball Signs Texas, Louisiana Stars

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State head baseball coach Josh Holliday has announced the signing of a pair of prep stars to national letters of intent for the Cowboys' 2015 incoming class.
Joining the Cowboys for the '15 season will be Louisiana standout Kennon Fontenot, an infielder from Lake Charles' Barbe High School, and Wylie, Texas, East High School two-way star Garrett McCain.
"We're really excited to get two extremely high character, high quality performers in Garrett McCain and Kennon Fontenot," Holliday said. "Ironically, both are standout quarterbacks and leaders at their respective high schools. The make-up of these kids is off the charts. They're both kids that we fought hard to get. Any time you can pull an elite player out of a state like Texas and Louisiana, it's a great compliment to your program as both those states have great baseball options close to home.
"They will both come in and make an immediate impact. We appreciate their families trusting us and giving us a chance to coach these kids."
Kennon Fontenot, INF, 5-10, 185, R/R, Lake Charles, La. (Barbe HS) OSU recruiting coordinator Marty Lees on Fontenot: "Kennon is a very good athlete. As a two-sport athlete, he is also one of the top quarterbacks in the state of Louisiana. He plays shortstop at Barbe but is flexible and athletic enough to play anywhere in the infield. Kennon is a leader and has great knowledge of the game. We expect big things from him." |
Garrett McCain, LHP/OF, 6-0, 185, R/L, Lavon, Texas (Wylie East HS) Lees on McCain: "We believe Garrett can play two positions for us, maybe even three. He's a very talented left-handed pitcher, plays in the outfield and I've also seen him play some first base and do a very good job. We fought a lot of people for Garrett, and we're excited he chose us. Garrett is very skilled and will keep getting better. His coaches rave about his work ethic and intangibles, and he brings with him some unique leadership qualities." |
