STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State All-American Peter Uihlein made history this week, becoming the first American to win the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year trophy after a stellar season on the European Tour.
A first-team All-American on two occasions for the Cowboys, Uihlein recorded his first victory in May at the Madeira Islands Open. The win secured full European Tour playing privileges for the rest of the season. Uihlein followed with a pair of 10th-place showings at the BMW International Open and the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
In August, Uihlein posted a pair of runner-up finishes, placing second at the ISPS Handa Wales Open. He followed with a playoff loss at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which saw him card a 12-under-par 60 and just miss logging the Tour's first-ever 59.
Additionally, Uihlein added a fifth-place showing at the BMW Masters.
The 2010 U.S. Amateur Champion and 2011 Ben Hogan Award winner currently ranks 64th in the Official World Golf Rankings and finished the year 14th in The Race to Dubai.
