STILLWATER, Okla. -
The eighth-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian squad wrapped up its fall schedule by defeating No. 3 TCU, 14-5, Saturday at Animal Science Arena.
The Cowgirls improved to 2-2 on the season in their final competition of the fall semester.
"I think the girls rode extremely well today," coach Larry Sanchez said. "We challenged them all week to step up their game and take their riding to a whole new level and that's what they did."
The hunter seat team earned its second win of the season, defeating the Horned Frogs (4-2) 6-4. The Cowgirls won equitation, 3-2. Freshman Jorden Davis defeated Kaitlin Perry, 76-57. Senior Samantha Harrison defeated Nikki Diamantis 84-68, and senior Ali Rose earned Most Outstanding Performer honor for her 86-63 performance.
In equitation over fences, the Cowgirls 3-2 victory was led by senior Andrea Robbins with her 81-80 victory over Molly Peddicord. Robbins also picked up MOP honors for her performance. Davis picked up her second victory of the day, defeating Diamantis, 78-74, and senior Sammy Elser earned another point for the Cowgirls with her 76-69 victory.
"It was great to go 6-4," Robbins said. "It's just hard because the points can go either way, especially in the flat. We stayed consistent throughout the entire day and everyone rode really well."
The western team stayed undefeated, defeating TCU, 8-1. For the second-straight competition, the horsemanship team swept its competition, winning 5-0. The Cowgirls were lead by junior Katy Krshka who earned her third MOP honor of the season with her 77.5-74.5 victory over Taylor Gillete. Sophomore Ty Paris and senior Lauren Halvorson both were awarded 76 points for their performances, helping the Cowgirls further their lead. Finally, junior Lindsey McMullen defeated Megan McMullen, 74.5-73 to round out the scoring for horsemanship.
"I think it was a really good way to end our season," Krshka said. "TCU came in ranked higher than us and we came in and beat them by quite a bit, so it was a pretty good win for us."
In the final event of the day, the reining team defeated TCU 3-1 and solidified the victory for the Cowgirls. Sophomore Justine Peters was awarded MOP for her high score of 73, and senior Jenna Blumer defeated Brook Boyle 72-70.5. Sophomore Erin Willoughby earned the final point for the Cowgirls, scoring a 74.5 to close out competition on the day.
"We just have to keep going," Sanchez said. "We are not at our endpoint yet, we have to work toward our finished product, which is a national championship."
The Cowgirls will return to competition in 2014 when they travel to Dover, Del., where they will take on Auburn and Delaware State, respectively on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
