Cowboys Roll To Victory At Royal Oaks

DALLAS, Texas - For the second year in a row, Oklahoma State's men's golf team swept both titles at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club, rolling to a 16-shot victory on Tuesday and producing the individual medalist in Kevin Dougherty.
Utilizing a 6-count-5 format, the Cowboys posted a 15-under 340 during their third round at the par-71, 7,068-yard layout. OSU finished with a 54-hole total of 1,029, 36-under par, and 16 shots clear of Stanford. The win was the second in a row for the Cowboys, giving them their first consecutive victories since winning the Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Colorado Regional in consecutive starts in 2011.
Dougherty closed with an even-par 71 to finish at 11-under 202 and one shot clear of teammate Wyndham Clark and SMU's Austin Smotherman. The win was the first of Dougherty's career and came in impressive fashion.
The senior played bogey-free golf through the first 41 holes of the tournament before carding his first at the par 4-sixth on Tuesday. Dougherty made the turn at 1-over 36 before getting back to even par with a birdie at the 12th. After a bogey at the 13th, he birdied the 18th to move back to even and secure the victory.
Clark's runner-up showing marked his third top-five finish in a row and came after closing with a 65 to finish at 10-under 203.
Senior Ian Davis, the event's defending champion, tallied his third top-five finish in a row as well, coming in alone in fourth place at 204 after closing with a 67.
Senior Talor Gooch moved into a tie for fifth place after finishing with a 67 to stand at 8-under 205, while freshman Zachary Olsen posted a 70 to finish at 215 and tied for 37th.
Sophomore Jordan Niebrugge's 74 tied him for 53rd place at 219.
The Cowboys will be off until they start their spring slate on Feb. 6 in Kona, Hawaii at the American Airlines Invitational.
