Oklahoma State Post-Game Notes vs. Iowa State
Jack Trice Stadium | Ames, Iowa | Oct. 26, 2013
:: Serving as Oklahoma State captains for today's game were Clint Chelf, James Castleman, Joe Mitchell and Josh Stewart.
:: Running back Desmond Roland and offensive lineman Brandon Garrett each made their first career starts today.
:: With those starts, nine players have made their first start in an Oklahoma State uniform this season.
:: Iowa State's opening drive resulted in a three-and-out, marking the sixth-consecutive game Oklahoma State has held its opponent scoreless on its opening drive.
:: Justin Gilbert's interception return for a score in the first quarter was his first interception return for a touchdown of his career, giving him six total non-offensive touchdowns, including five kickoff returns for a score.
:: It marked the first time a Cowboys has scored on an interception return since Shaun Lewis scored on a 70-yard return at Iowa State in 2011.
:: That interception was also the fourth of the season for Gilbert and the ninth of his career. Entering the game, Gilbert ranked second in the Big 12 and 17th nationally in interceptions per game, averaging 0.5 interceptions per contest.
:: OSU has scored 20 or more points in 46 consecutive games dating back to the start of the 2010 season. That streak is the second-longest since Division I split into the FBS/FCS in 1978, trailing only USC's 63 straight games of 20 or more points from Sept. 2, 2002 through Nov. 25, 2006.
:: The Cowboys put 21 points on the board in the first quarter alone. That marks the fourth time this season OSU has scored 21 points in a quarter.
:: OSU has now scored on a drive of less than two minutes in 29 consecutive games and in 45 of the past 46 games.
:: Clint Chelf's 32-yard rush in the opening quarter was his longest rush of the season.
:: Desmond Roland scored on a career-long 58-yard run in the third quarter. It was OSU's longest rushing play of the season and the longest scoring rush since Joseph Randle scored a 69-yard touchdown against Texas last season.
:: Roland finished the day with 219 rushing yards, setting a career high. It was the second 100-yard rushing game of his career and his first against an FBS opponent. It marked the first time OSU has had a rusher record more than 200 yards since Kendall Hunter rushed for 201 yards against Nebraska in 2010. It was the highest total for a Cowboy rusher since Hunter tallied 257 yards against Washington State in 2010. The last time OSU had a 200-yard rusher on the road was when Keith Toston recorded 206 yards at Iowa State in 2009.
:: Roland scored four rushing touchdowns today, marking a career high and the first time a Cowboy has scored four times on the ground since Joseph Randle against Oklahoma in 2012.
:: Roland's rushing touchdown to open the second quarter finished off a 27-second touchdown drive, marking OSU's fastest scoring drive of the season and the third touchdown drive faster than a minute this year.
:: Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson rushed for a gain of 51 yards on ISU's first drive of the second quarter. It was the longest rush OSU's defense has surrendered this year. The previous long was a 25-yard rush by West Virginia's Charles Sims.
:: James Castleman blocked a PAT in the second quarter today. It was his, as well as Oklahoma State's, second block of the season with the first coming on a field goal attempt at West Virginia.
:: Tyler Johnson's 54-yard fumble return for a touchdown was the ninth-longest fumble return in OSU history and the first fumble return for a score since Daytawion Lowe ran a fumble back 37 yards against Purdue in last season's Heart of Dallas Bowl.
:: The last time Oklahoma State scored two defensive touchdowns in a game was against Baylor in 2006 when Donovan Woods scored on a 57-yard fumble return and Darnell Smith scored on a 23-yard interception return.
:: The last time Oklahoma State had two non-offensive touchdowns in a game was against Oklahoma in 2010 when Shaun Lewis scored on a 52-yard interception return and Justin Gilbert scored on an 89-yard kickoff return.
