STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State got back in the win column Sunday with a 3-1 triumph over Missouri State at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Courtney Dike scored a pair of goals, while fellow freshman Krissi Killion added another as the Cowgirls improved to 6-3-6. OSU is undefeated in its last five matches with a 2-0-3 mark during that span, and Sunday's game also snapped a string of four-straight overtime games for coach Colin Carmichael's squad.
“We're happy with winning and not playing those extra 20 minutes was awesome — the girls were really excited,” Carmichael said. “The win is huge. We've played some good soccer and played so many tough games — and (Missouri State) was good, not a pushover by any stretch — and to get the win, score a few goals and get some confidence back was big for us.”
For just the second time this season, OSU netted three goals in a game, and Killion got the scoring started early. Just 3:06 into the match, Dike and Madison Mercado connected on passes ahead, and Killion delivered a shot from eight-yards out. MSU goalie Jessica Perry got a hand on the shot to deflect it, but the ball rolled over the line for Killion's third goal of the season.
Dike would give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute. Miriam Rhinehart dribbled the ball near the endline and sent a short cross to OSU's leading scorer, who converted the shot from close range for her 10th goal of the season.
Early in the second half, Dike added to her total as she picked up her 11th goal by tapping in a cross that was deflected by a Bears' defender. Dike's two-goal effort was her third of the season, marking the first time since 2010 that a Cowgirl has had at least three multi-goal games in a season.
The Cowgirls held the 3-0 lead until the 62:30 mark when MSU's Molly Huber converted a penalty kick after OSU was whistled for a foul in the box. The goal was the final one in a match that saw the home team own a 16-5 advantage in shots.
OSU returns to action Friday when the Cowgirls take on Baylor in Waco, Texas, in a match scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
