ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened with a 4-under 284 team score on Friday during the first round of action at the US. Collegiate Championship to stand in second place at The Golf Club of Georgia.
The Cowboys' 4-under total put them five shots off the pace of tournament leader Georgia Tech at the par-72, 7,017-yard layout. Virginia and Texas A&M shared third place after day one at 285.
A pair of players carded 66s to finish tied for first, with Virginia's Ben Rusch and Georgia Tech's Ollie Scniederjans each posting 6-under scores.
OSU's Jordan Niebrugge was one of seven players to come in tied for third place after posting a 3-under 69. The sophomore opened with a birdie and made the turn at 2-under after posting birdies at the fifth and ninth. Niebrugge dipped back to 1-under after a bogey at the 12th, but rallied with birdies at the 16th and 18th to finish at 3-under par for the day.
Senior Ian Davis also broke par during his first round, finishing at 1-under 71 to stand in a tie for 20th place.
Freshman Zachary Olsen and senior Talor Gooch posted 72s to come in tied for 25th place, while sophomore Wyndham Clark's 73 tied him for 35th place.
