Cowboys Remain at the Top of the Midwest Region
September 10, 2012 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State men's cross country team remained No. 1 and the women's team remained at No. 2 in the Midwest region, according to the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association polls that were released today.
The Cowboys remain ahead of the No. 2 team Oklahoma in the new poll. The only new addition to the men's poll was North Dakota, who debuted at No. 14.
The Cowgirls stayed at No. 2 behind Iowa State. There were no changes to the top, and there were no new additions to the women's poll.
"Both rankings are fair. That's where I would rank us," said OSU head coach Dave Smith. "Honestly, nothing's really changed since the preseason. No one's really raced their full teams, including us."
Both teams are coming off strong performances at the Hurricane Festival in Tulsa, Okla., on September 1. The Cowboys took the top seven spots and finished the dual meet portion, 4-0. Redshirt junior Taylor Monaghan finished in first-place overall with a time of 20:35. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls finished the dual portion 5-0, and junior Victoria Hanna placed fourth overall with a time of 11:19.
"I think the men are very, very good, and the women are the best group we've had since I've been here," said Smith.
Both teams return to action September 29 when they compete in the Cowboy Jamboree, held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater.
