Mercado Named Week's Top Newcomer

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State freshman Madison Mercado has been named the Big 12 Conference Soccer Newcomer of the Week for games played from Aug. 24-26, it was announced by the league today.

Mercado started at midfielder in a pair of OSU wins as the fourth-ranked Cowgirls improved to 4-0-0 and remained one of only two undefeated teams in the Big 12. In Sunday's 4-1 win over Creighton, Mercado scored two goals, becoming the first OSU freshman to record multiple goals in a game since 2010. The first goal of her collegiate career tied the game at 1-1, and her late goal sealed the win for the Cowgirls.

A freshman from Sapulpa, Okla., Mercado is the first Cowgirl to earn a Big 12 weekly award this season.
