ENDICOTT, N.Y. - Former Oklahoma State standout Willie Wood earned his first-ever Champions Tour title on Sunday, winning the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in a playoff over Michael Allen at En-Joie Golf Course.
Wood ran in a 35-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to close with a 68 and force the playoff with Allen. Both players finished at 13-under 203. Wood opened the event with rounds of 67 and 68.
Wood then won the tournament on the first playoff hole with a par after Allen found the water with his tee shot.
For the former Cowboy All-American, the victory netted him $270,000 and was his first since posting his lone PGA Tour victory at the 1996 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. Additionally, he earned an immediate exemption on the Champions Tour for one year and moved him from 52nd to 28th on the money list.
