STILLWATER, Okla. - Dressed in full pads and practicing in windy conditions on the grass fields adjacent to Gallagher-Iba Arena, the Oklahoma State football team practiced Monday morning for the first of two scheduled Monday sessions. After practice, coach Mike Gundy talked about what he gleaned from this past Saturday's scrimmage after analyzing it on tape:
On his thoughts about Saturday's scrimmage after further reviewing it:
"Really, it was just what we saw - the offense was really effective. What was as impressive as anything that nobody noticed until the next day was I believe we had 51 receptions and no drops. I don't know that I've ever been around that, so we're catching the ball effectively. Now in practice today, we had several drops which I wasn't happy with.
"Defensively, we have to do an overall better job of defending the passing game, just the concepts of being in the right areas in zone. They made some of those corrections in practice today."
On the play of freshman QB Wes Lunt in the scrimmage:
"Wes played pretty well. He distributed the ball effectively and got the ball in the hands of the guys that can make plays. He dumped it down to the running backs and used the field. He continues to display a really good demeanor. It seems like he's increased his knowledge of our offense."
On the possibility for playing time for the stable of freshman receivers:
"We're going to play quite a few of them - I'm going to guess three. We're going to know more a week from now. We'll have to start making some decisions. The good news about those receivers is that they're physically capable of competing at this level. They have size and strength and leaping ability and seem to have durability, which obviously gives them a chance. If they're ready to play, with as many guys as we have to use, we'll certainly find a way to get them on the field."
