STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State running back Joseph Randle is one of 50 players on the preseason watch list for the 2012 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, it was announced today.
In addition to his spot on the preseason watch list for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Randle also appears on preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award presented to the nation's top player by the Maxwell Football Foundation and the Doak Walker Award presented to the nation's top running back.
The media's pick as the 2012 preseason All-Big 12 first-team running back, Randle ranked second in the conference and fourth nationally in scoring per game (12.0 points per game), total touchdowns (26) and rushing touchdowns (24) en route to earning All-Big 12 first-team honors by the Associated Press in 2011. His 150 points scored ranks as the second-best single-season total in school history, trailing only Barry Sanders' NCAA record-setting 234 points in 1988.
As a sophomore in 2011, Randle carried the ball 208 times for 1,248 yards and added 43 catches for 266 yards and partnered with quarterback Brandon Weeden and receiver Justin Blackmon to win the inaugural Pony Express Award presented to the nation's best set of teammates.
The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2012 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 124 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, December 6. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation's annual national awards banquet on January 12, 2013 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.
