STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State offensive lineman Lane Taylor is one of 71 players on the preseason watch list for the 2012 Outland Trophy presented to the nation's top interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America, it was announced today.
Taylor has been a regular contributor to the high-powered Cowboy offense the past three years and he easily leads all returning OSU players with 36 career starts. He has been overshadowed in recent years by his fellow Cowboy offensive linemen, as he manned the OSU front alongside 2009 Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year Russell Okung, 2011 Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year Grant Garner and consensus All-American Levy Adcock.
With Taylor helping lead the way, Oklahoma State ranked third nationally in scoring offense in 2010 and improved to second nationally in scoring offense in 2011. Taylor has been a key figure on an OSU offensive line that paved the way for a Cowboy attack that ranked third nationally in total offense in both 2010 and 2011. OSU has ranked among the top 11 teams in the nation in fewest sacks allowed with Taylor protecting the quarterback.
Taylor graded out at 98 percent in two games last year and did not allow a sack. He recorded a staggering eight knockdown blocks as part of the Cowboys' 66-6 win at Texas Tech.
