Sharp On Ray Guy Award Preseason List

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State punter Quinn Sharp is on the preseason watch list for the 2012 Ray Guy Award presented to the nation's top punter, it was announced today. Sharp is also on the preseason list for the Lou Groza Award presented to the nation's top kicker. He joins Nebraska's Brett Maher as the only two players in the country on both the preseason Ray Guy and Lou Groza Award watch lists.
A first-team All-America punter in 2010, Sharp's Ray Guy Award chances each of the last two seasons have been hampered by Oklahoma State's powerful offense, as he has not attempted enough punts to qualify for the NCAA statistics on weeks when the award named its semifinalists and finalists.
The reigning Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year and the only player in conference history to be named All-Big 12 first team kicker and punter in the same season, Sharp led the Big 12 and ranked third nationally with a single-season school-record 46.3 yards-per-punt average in 2011. His career average of 45.78 yards per punt is also an Oklahoma State school record and leads all active players in the nation.
Oklahoma State's Matt Fodge won the 2008 Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter.
