STILLWATER, Okla. – Justin Elkington has been named the associate head coach of the women's soccer team at Oklahoma State, it was announced today by Cowgirl head coach Colin Carmichael.
Elkington enters his fourth season on the Cowgirl coaching staff in 2012 and has played a key role on the most successful teams in school history since arriving in Stillwater.
“This is a huge positive for our program and for Justin, and it shows the level of commitment both parties have for each other,” Carmichael said. “Since Justin has been here, our program has achieved unprecedented success, and this title is a reward for the large part he has played in that success.
“We have built this program over the last 16 years to an elite level. A big part of our success has been the continuity within our coaching staff, and this helps show that Justin is also committed to this program for the long term.”
During Elkington's tenure, OSU has compiled a 57-13-6 record (.789) and continued to establish itself as a national power by making three appearances in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. In each of the last two seasons, the Cowgirls have advanced to the Elite Eight of the tourney and finished No. 5 in the final national rankings.
The Cowgirls have also captured three-straight Big 12 Conference championships since Elkington's arrival, claiming tournament titles in 2009 and 2010 and a regular season crown in 2011.
In 2012, Elkington was named the NSCAA Women's College Assistant Coach of the Year for the Midwest Region after helping guide OSU to a school-record 22 wins.
Elkington has helped goalkeeper AD Franch develop into one of the nation's best as the senior-to-be is a two-time All-American and three-time All-Big 12 First Team performer.
