WICHITA, Kan. - Former Oklahoma State men's golf standout Casey Wittenberg earned his second victory of the year on the Nationwide Tour this past weekend with a two-shot victory at the 23rd Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open.
Wittenberg, who entered the event fresh off a tie for 10th place at the U.S. Open, became the first player this year to claim multiple victories on the Nationwide circuit. Earlier this season, he won the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. If Wittenberg were to win a third event this year he would receive a battlefield promotion to the PGA Tour.
A second-team All-American in 2004 for the Cowboys, Wittenberg closed with a 5-under 66 at Crestview Country Club. He finished the 72-hole event at 18-under 266 and two shots clear of Justin Hicks and Jim Herman.
With the victory, Wittenberg pocketed $108,000 and moved up to No. 2 on the Tour's money list with $240,019 in earnings this season.
