CHICAGO – Oklahoma State soccer goalkeeper AD Franch will participate in the U.S. Women's National Team training camp in Princeton, N.J., it was announced today by U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage.
Franch is one of 28 players and five goalies in the camp, which will be held from May 10-25. The U.S. team will then take on China in Chester, Pa., in the next-to-last domestic match for the U.S. team before it departs for the 2012 London Olympics. Sundhage will choose 18 players to suit up against China.
A native of Salina, Kan., Franch will be a senior for the Cowgirl soccer team this fall. She is one of just two collegiate players on the U.S. National Team roster, along with Kristie Mewis of Boston College.
“We are thrilled that AD has been invited into camp with the full US National Team,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “It is a tremendous opportunity for her to train with and against some of the best players in the world. Just being around players such as Abby Wambach, Hope Solo, Alex Morgan and others will bring out the best in her and challenge her every day.
“I am so proud of what AD has accomplished so far in her young soccer career. She works so hard and deserves every opportunity that comes her way. We are very excited to have her at OSU for one more year.”
Franch is the first Oklahoma State player to ever earn a spot on the U.S. National Team roster. She was a backup keeper on the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Team and has continued to participate with the U.S. U-23 National Team.
A two-time All-American, Franch is OSU's all-time leader in shutouts with 32. She has been named to All-Big 12 First Team each of her three seasons in Stillwater and is a two-time semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
