STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State cornerback Brodrick Brown is one of 42 players on the preseason watch list for the2012 Lott IMPACT Trophy, it was announced today.
The trophy gives equal weight to personal character as well as athletic performance from a defensive college player and is named after Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott.
Brown was one of 10 semifinalists for both the Lott IMPACT Trophy and the Jim Thorpe Award last season, and is one of only three players on the 2012 Lott IMPACT preseason watch list to advance to the award's semifinalist stage last year, joining Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o and Ohio State defensive tackle John Simon.
A first-team all-Big 12 and second-team All-American as a junior last year, Brown was one of the leaders of an Oklahoma State defense that led the nation in turnovers. He led the Big 12 and ranked third nationally with 1.54 passes defended per game and was 14th nationally with five interceptions. He made 68 tackles - 4.0 for loss - and recovered two fumbles last season.
He enters the 2012 season having started 27 straight games, which is the longest active streak among OSU's defensive players.
Voting for the Lott IMPACT Trophy will take place throughout the season with the winner announced at the annual black-tie awards banquet Dec. 9 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
