Conway, Ark. -- Gessenia DeLaCruz reached on an error, and Chelsea Garcia scored from third in the bottom of the seventh as the Oklahoma State softball team defeated Jackson State 2-1 here Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Wendi Reed led off the frame by reaching first after being hit by a pitch from Cowgirl starter Simone Freeman. After stealing second, Reed moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Tayler Nave hit a hard grounder at DeLaCruz at third, and beat out the throw, scoring Reed.

The Cowgirls responded in the bottom half of the frame as Shelby Davis led off with a base hit to left center. After stealing second, she moved to third on a ground out by Sammy Jo Diffendaffer. Davis then scored on a groundout by Tamara Brown, tying the game at 1-1.

It became a pitching duel after the first as Freeman and JSU starter Breea Jamerson stifled both offenses. Jamerson allowed just two hits over the next five innings and two other Cowgirl batters reached on errors. Freeman was just as effective, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out seven. Kat Espinosa came on in relief in the top of the sixth and, after walking the first batter she faced who was caught stealing, retired the final five batters.

Garcia led off the final inning with a base hit through the left side and stole second. A sacrifice bunt by Ettinger advanced Garcia to third, and after third baseman Sabeana Romero's throw to first was off target, Garcia ran home with the winning run.

Oklahoma State (18-15) will have a week off before hosting the Oklahoma Sooners in Bedlam action on Wednesday, April 11, at Cowgirl Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7 pm.
