Whaley Named Big 12 Newcomer Of Week

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State junior Trey Whaley has been tabbed the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week for games played April 23-29, it was announced by the league office today.
Whaley's hot hitting helped Oklahoma State go 4-0 on the week, which included a win over No. 23 Oklahoma and a series sweep at Kansas State. Whaley started all four games in the outfield and hit .529 (9-for-17) with six doubles, five runs and four RBIs. He tallied 15 total bases and an .882 slugging percentage and added a stolen base.
Whaley hit safely in all four games and collected multi-hit efforts in three of those, including a pair of three-hit performances. In the K-State series, he was 7-for-13 (.538) with three RBIs, four doubles, four runs and 11 total bases. His slugging percentage in the series was .846.
With his offensive tear, Whaley raised his season batting average to a team-leading .328.
Whaley is the fourth OSU player to earn a weekly honor from the Big 12 this season, joining Chase Stevens (newcomer on Feb. 27), Robbie Rea (co-player on March 12) and Andrew Heaney (pitcher on March 19).
