Cowgirls Blow Past Hurricane, 8-3

Stillwater, Okla. -- Ari Morrison went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Oklahoma State swept the season series with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, winning 8-3 Wednesday evening at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Cierra Hughes scored on a base hit by Jill Barrett off Cowgirl starter Simone Freeman. Tulsa had two hits and two walks in the inning, but produced just the one run.
Oklahoma State tied the game in the bottom half of the frame. Morrison led off with an infield single, and one out later, scored on a double by Kelsey Anchors. Two batters later, Julie Ward hit a base hit up the middle, scoring Anchors from second as OSU took a 2-1 lead.
The Cowgirls made it 3-1 in the fourth on another infield single by Morrison. Amy Graham led off the inning with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, then moved to third on an error by TU catcher Cassidy Bowen when she attempted to pick Graham off at second. Morrison's single to short with two outs scored Graham.
Tulsa tied the game in the top of the fifth on three hits, a sacrifice, a stolen base and a wild pitch. The damage could have been worse, but Samantha Cobb flew out to right for the second out, and Barrett was forced out returning to first for a double play.
The flood gates opened for the Cowgirl offense in the sixth. OSU scored five runs on three hits and four walks, including back-to-back bases-loaded walks issued to Tamara Brown and Ward.
Kat Espinosa came on in relief in the sixth inning and picked up the victory, improving to 13-8 on the season. Lacey Middlebrooks started in the circle for Tulsa and took the loss, falling to 13-4.
Oklahoma State (22-16) will travel to Austin, Texas, this weekend for a three-game series with the No. 5 Texas Longhorns. The first game is scheduled for 5 pm on Friday evening.
