STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State football team scrimmaged for about 100 plays Friday in Boone Pickens Stadium. Coach Mike Gundy provided his insight on what he saw after the session:
On Friday's Scrimmage:
"The offense won the scrimmage today. The defense was dominant last time, but the offense really played well today. The quarterbacks played better. Tracy Moore had a nice scrimmage and made a lot of plays."
On why the offense performed better Friday than in the previous scrimmage:
"They were more balanced in play-pass and were able to run the ball effectively. It goes back to games, if you're able to run the ball effectively, then you can throw it. If you get stuffed in the run game - last week, the linebackers and defensive line controlled the scrimmage, so they couldn't throw the ball. Today, they ran the ball much better, which allowed them to throw the football."
On what the quarterbacks did to improve from the last scrimmage:
"J.W. Walsh had the opportunity to run some and made some plays running the ball. Wes Lunt continues to throw the ball better and mature being a young player and Clint Chelf had a couple nice drives. He led the team down and scored - he did a better job of handling the offense than he did last week."
On the play of the defense in Friday's scrimmage:
"Their high points were forcing turnovers. They got three turnovers and blocked a field goal. The low point was I don't think they tackled as well in space as they did last week and I talked about that to them afterwards. The turnovers are awesome because that gives us the best chance to win games, but the bad part is that we need to tackle better in space to eliminate the big plays."
On if any defensive players stood out in Friday's scrimmage:
"Brodrick Brown and Justin Gilbert both showed up. I thought Calvin Barnett made some plays - it's hard for me to see the interior. Lyndell Johnson continues to make plays. He shows up with his speed."
