Stillwater, Okla. -- Oklahoma State gave up a bases-loaded double in the top of the eighth inning, and Texas A&M came away with a 3-1 win over the Cowgirls here Friday night in the series opener.

After a scoreless 1-1/2 innings, Cowgirl senior Julie Ward led off the bottom of the second with a home run that hit the foul pole down the right-field line, her first of the season. The all-time home run leader in OSU history had missed the previous four games with a knee injury, but served as the designated player and cleanup hitter for Oklahoma State.

Texas A&M tied the game in the top of the fourth when Aggie Meagan May hit a bomb to right centerfield off Cowgirl starter Kat Espinosa. It was May's seventh home run of the season.

It became a pitchers duel in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. OSU had just one runner on base while Texas A&M had two, sending the game into extra frames.

Aggie leadoff hitter Natalie Villarreal, who went 3-for-4 in the game, led off the eighth with a base hit. After Villarreal stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, the Cowgirls intentionally walked May and pitcher Mel Dumezich to load the bases. Cassie Tysarczyk hit a drive over a drawn-in outfield, scoring two runs for the victory.

Oklahoma State fell to 16-14 overall and 1-4 in Big 12 Conference action. Texas A&M improved to 24-9, 1-4 in league play. The Cowgirls and Aggies will play Saturday afternoon at 4 pm at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
