STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State football team practiced for about two hours Wednesday in warm conditions on the grass practice fields adjacent to Gallagher-Iba Arena dressed in full pads. After practice, wide receiver Tracy Moore talked about spring ball in general and praised several of his teammates.
On spring practice:
"Spring ball is going pretty well. We have a lot of inexperienced players out here trying to make a name for themselves. We have people competing for spots because we lost a lot, but people are working to step into those roles. Right now, I'm trying to step into the role that Justin Blackmon played for us last year and I'm trying to help some of the younger players step into the role that I played last year."
On how he defines his role:
"I want to be the leader of this offense. We have inexperienced players at quarterback and at receiver - other than Josh Stewart and Isaiah Anderson - so I want to be that senior leader that Coach Gundy is always talking about."
On receivers to watch as potential breakthrough players in 2012:
"Torrance Carr and Isaiah Anderson. Isaiah made some plays last year, but not really with the ones, so he's stepping up and playing the senior role, too."
On players who have developed well in the weight room:
"Daytawion Lowe has made real good strides in the weight room. He's starting to lift with me now. He was battling that shoulder injury, so he couldn't lift as much as he used to. Now that he's healed, he's developing his athleticism so much that I don't know of an inside receiver that he can't guard this year."
On which player in the OSU secondary presents the biggest challenge in practice for the OSU receivers:
"My goodness, they're all so tough. If I had to choose one, I'd say Justin Gilbert because of his speed. No matter how bad you beat him, he's going to be right back on you because of how fast he is. Brodrick Brown is more physical and Daytawion Lowe is kind of a mix of both of them - he's got speed and physicality."
On the general mood and vibe of the team this spring:
"Everybody's hungry and wants to make a name for themselves to help the team win. They realize the superstars are gone so it's time to compete for a spot."
