Cowboys Fall At Match Play Championship

BRADENTON, Fla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team split a pair of matches on Sunday during the first day of action at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at The Concession Golf Club.
The fourth-seeded Cowboys knocked off No. 13 seed Colorado State, 3.5-1.5, during the first round of play before falling to fifth-seeded Chattanooga during the afternoon round in a tiebreaker.
Against CSU, Kirby Pettitt got the Rams on the board first with a 1-up victory over junior Sean Einhaus.
OSU evened the match with sophomore Brad Gehl's 1-up win over Cameron Harrell. Sophomore Talor Gooch then halved his match with Zakhai Brown before a pair of freshmen sealed the win for the Cowboys.
Patrick Winther and Tanner Kesterson each logged 2-up victories, defeating Mike Wuertz and Parker Edens, respectively.
With the victory, the Cowboys advanced to face the Mocs. Chattanooga's Benjamin Weilguni logged a 5-and-3 victory over Gehl, while Chris Robb provided the second point after defeating Kesterson, 3 and 1. The Cowboys leveled the match with Einhaus dropping Steven Fox, 3 and 1, and Winther taking care of Liam Johnston, 2 and 1.
Gooch halved his match with Stephan Jaeger to force the implementation of the tiebreaker. Chattanooga advanced to the semifinal round with a victory margin of 8 holes to 5.
The Cowboys will face East Carolina tomorrow morning in the consolation bracket.
