LAS VEGAS - Oklahoma State's men's golf team slipped one spot into 13th place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Saturday after posting a 296 during its second round at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The Cowboys' 8-over score gave them a 36-hole total of 594 at the par-72, 7,510-yard layout. OSU will begin tomorrow's final round two shots behind Duke, four shots off the pace of Texas Tech and five shots behind Southern California for 10th place. California finished the day as the only squad under par, posting a 287 to move to 3-under 573 and grabbing a six-shot lead.
Texas Tech's Logan McCracken followed his opening 66 with a 72 to stand at 6-under 138 and two shots clear of the field.
Sophomore Talor Gooch jumped 16 spots into a tie for 13th place to lead OSU's starting five. Gooch fired a 2-under 70 to stand at 144. Gooch's only miscue, a double bogey at the 15th, put him at 2-over through six. However, he made the turn at even par after posting birdies at the 16th and 18th. Gooch followed with birdies at the fourth and seventh to finish at 2-under for the day.
Redshirt freshman Patrick Winther moved into the top 20 after posting a 71 to get to 145 and tied for 17th place.
Junior Sean Einhaus posted his second consecutive 77 to finish tied for 56th place at 154.
Sophomore Brad Gehl also finished at 154 after carding an 81 during his second round.
Sophomore Ian Davis came in tied for 69th place at 158 after posting a 78.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 10:03 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with New Mexico State and Arizona State.
