STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State was picked to finish sixth in the 2012 Big 12 Conference baseball standings in a preseason vote of the league's head coaches, it was announced today.
The Cowboys were also picked to finish sixth in 2011, and coach Frank Anderson's ballclub bested that prediction by going 14-12 in conference play to finish fourth. OSU was 35-25 overall a year ago and earned an NCAA Regional berth for the sixth time in eight years.
Texas A&M, which shared last year's regular season title with Texas, is the unanimous choice to win the nine-team league in 2012. The Longhorns are second, followed by Oklahoma, Baylor and Missouri. Since 1999, the preseason favorite to win the conference title has done so five times.
Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own team in the poll.
OSU opens the season Friday at Cal Poly. First pitch is set for 8 p.m. (CST).
