Cowgirls Lose In San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma State suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 14 Baylor Wednesday night in the opening round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship at Blossom Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, seventh-seeded OSU fell to 11-6-3 on the season. The Cowgirls had not lost to Baylor since 2001, having compiled a 9-0-2 record against the Bears in their last 11 meetings.
Making its 10th Big 12 Championship appearance, OSU entered the tournament with a 13-4-3 all-time record and had previously only lost in the opening round twice, the last time coming in 2004.
The tourney's No. 2 seed, Baylor (15-1-4) netted all three of its goals in the first 15:15 of the match to move into the semifinals.
“It's certainly a disappointing result,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “Baylor is a very good team, and you can't dig yourself a hole like we did and expect to come back.
“It's a tough way for this senior class to go out. They've had so much success and meant so much to building this program into a national contender; I just wish we could have made another postseason run.”
The Cowgirls had an early scoring opportunity when, less than five minutes into the contest, Allie Stephenson blasted a shot from 16-yards out. But BU goalie Michelle Kloss made a diving save keep OSU off the scoreboard.
Baylor took a 1-0 lead at the 37:55 mark when Dana Larsen wove through the defense and delivered a pass to Lisa Sliwinski, who delivered a sliding shot past OSU goalie AD Franch for her eighth goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, the Bears doubled their lead. This time it was Larsen sending a cross into the box that Vic Hoffman headed into the back of the net to put BU on top, 2-0.
The Bears' lead reached 3-0 in the 16th minute, and this time it was Larsen doing it all herself as she took advantage of an OSU defender falling down and delivered a shot from just inside the 18-yard box for the score.
OSU nearly cut into the lead at the 19:55 mark, but a shot by Stephenson caromed off the crossbar and Heidi Greeson's rebound was saved by Kloss.
Baylor finished with a 16-7 advantage on shots and a 4-2 edge on corner kicks, while each goalie recorded three saves.
