Oct. 20, 2012 | Boone Pickens Stadium | Stillwater, OK
Final Score: 31-10
Homecoming Notes
• Saturday's game marked Homecoming at Oklahoma State. With the victory, OSU is now 49-35-7 all-time on Homecoming and has won five of its last six Homecoming tilts.
• Oklahoma State wore orange helmets Saturday. It is believed that this was the first time the Cowboys have worn Orange helmets since 1979. The helmets did not feature the traditional OSU brand logo, rather, the Pistol Pete logo was the predominant mark on the helmet for what is believed to be the first time in school history.
Team Notes
• Coach Mike Gundy entered Saturday's contest tied with Pat Jones atop Oklahoma State's all-time coaching wins list with 62. With the win over the Cyclones, Gundy is now 63-32 since taking over the program in 2005. Jones went 62-60 from 1984-94.
• Oklahoma State has now won 14 of its last 17 Big 12 games.
• Iowa State entered Saturday's game limiting its opposition to 342.33 yards per game. The Cowboys had 308 yards of offense at the half and finished with 625.
• The most yards allowed by Iowa State in a game this year entering Saturday was 455 by TCU. Oklahoma State had 497 yards after three quarters before finishing with 625 for the contest.
• Iowa State scored a touchdown on the game's opening drive, marking the first time this season that OSU did not score first.
• When J.W. Walsh found Charlie Moore for a 74-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, it marked the Cowboys' third one-play touchdown drive of the year.
• With the Cowboys' 11-second-long 74-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter, OSU has now had at least one scoring drive of less than two minutes in 33-straight games.
Player Notes
• Game captains for Oklahoma State were receivers Charlie Moore and Josh Stewart, cornerback Justin Gilbert and kicker/punter Quinn Sharp.
• The Cowboys played without three injured offensive starters – QB Wes Lunt and WRs Tracy Moore and Isaiah Anderson. Another key offensive weapon - RB Jeremy Smith – was very limited in his action. He did not play at all in the first half.
• WR Torrance Carr saw his first game action of the year after recovering from a preseason injury.
• Linebacker Lyndell Johnson returned to play for the first time since sustaining a leg injury in the season opener.
• QB J.W. Walsh set career highs with 32 completions, 47 attempts and 415 yards. His completions and yardage totals rank second all-time among OSU freshmen, trailing only the 37 completions and 436 yards turned in by Wes Lunt at Arizona earlier this year.
• QB J.W. Walsh's 415 passing yards marked the 12th 400-yard passing game in school history.
• QB J.W. Walsh racked up his third 300-yard passing game of the year – the most ever for an OSU freshman.
• QB J.W. Walsh connected with receiver Charlie Moore for a 74-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, marking the longest play from scrimmage for the Cowboys this season. The previous long was a 72-yard Walsh-to-Moore connection against Kansas.
• By the 6:35 mark of the second quarter, WR Charlie Moore had already set career highs in both receptions and yards. His previous best marks were set against Kansas (five catches and 97 yards). He finished Saturday's game with eight receptions for 129 yards.
• WR Charlie Moore became the fourth different Oklahoma State receiver with a 100-yard game in 2012, marking the first time in school history that four different players have logged 100-yard receiving games in a single season.
