STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football squad grew by four today on the first day of the spring semester.
Now attending class at OSU after graduating from high school in December are quarterback Wes Lunt and linebacker Jeremiah Tshimanga. The prep stars join OSU's recently announced junior college signees, defensive tackle Calvin Barnett and tight end Blake Jackson, as early enrollees.
"We have added some great people to our football program," Gundy said. "We're excited about what they bring to Oklahoma State on and off the field."
Lunt quarterbacked Rochester to a pair of 4A state championships in Illinois. In the process he re-wrote the state's record book. Over the past two seasons, both of which resulted in state titles, the 6-5, 200-pounder passed for 65 touchdowns and just eight interceptions while throwing for nearly 7,500 yards. He was a first-team all-stater as selected by the Chicago Tribune as well as the Springfield News Gazette and was his conference's player of the year. His 590 passing yards against Springfield is an Illinois state record. He also set Illinois high school records for passing yards and completions in the state championship game.
Rivals lists Lunt as the nation's ninth best pro-style quarterback prospect while Scout ranked him No. 20 in that category.
Tshimanga (pronounced (shi-mung-a), 6-3, 230, is part of the prestigious Texas Football Magazine Super Team as a second-team selection. Rivals ranked him as the No. 69 player in the state of Texas, regardless of position after a senior season that included 84 tackles, including 11 for loss with a defensive touchdown. That service ranked him No. 18 among America's inside linebackers. He had 69 tackles as a junior.
