STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State women's tennis team defeated Wichita State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in its first home match of the season.
"It was definitely a good win for the girls," coach Chris Young said. "It was really important to get the doubles point."
The Cowgirls earned the decisive doubles point thanks to the Meghan Blevins and Mary Jeremiah as well as C.C. Sardinha and Isabela Miro, defeating their opponents, 8-3 and 8-0 at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Kanyapat Narattana and Malika Rose nearly made it a sweep, but lost in a close tie-breaker, 8-7(5).
Leading 1-0 going into singles play, the Cowgirls fought for their victory picking up three straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Rose breezed through her match defeating Delia Damaschin, 6-2, 6-4, while Blevins and Jeremiah also earned their wins in straight sets.
Blevins sealed the win for the Cowgirls with her victory over Veronika Blaskova, 7-5, 7-5, giving the Shockers (3-1) their first loss of the year.
Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul defeated Cowgirl Isabela Miro after a 10-5 win in a super tie-breaker to wrap up the dual.
"I thought the girls competed really hard," Young said. "I'm really proud of the win, and I look forward to the next match."
The Cowgirls, now 3-0, resume play when they face Arkansas in Fayetteville on Feb. 4.
