STILLWATER, Okla. – A pair of Oklahoma State goalkeepers is each participating with their respective national soccer teams this month, with AD Franch competing for the United States Under-23 National Team and Rosa Medina a member of the Mexico National Team roster.
Franch, a two-time All-American for the Cowgirls and head coach Colin Carmichael, is one of three goalies and 24 players at the U.S. U-23 camp in Sarasota, Fla., which is being held from Jan. 15-22. The training camp is the first under new head coach Randy Waldrum.
OSU's career leader in shutouts with 32, Franch became the first OSU player to make a U.S. National Team roster in 2010 when she was named to the U.S. U-20 National Team. She will be a senior for the Cowgirls next season.
“We are very excited that AD has once again been selected to participate in a training camp with the U.S. Under-23 National Team,” Carmichael said. “It is a great opportunity to train with and against some of the very best players in the nation. The experience that she will gain will be invaluable. We are very proud that she is able to represent OSU at this level.”
Medina spent two weeks at the Mexico National Team camp in preparation for the upcoming CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Mexico will play three matches from Jan. 19-29, with the top two teams from the tourney qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Medina is coming off a successful freshman season for the Cowgirls. She appeared in nine games and allowed just two goals in 584 minutes of action. Subbing for an injured Franch, Medina recorded four shutouts in six starts in her first year at OSU.
“We are thrilled that Rosa has been selected to train with and represent Mexico at the full international level,” Carmichael said. “Rosa had a terrific freshman year for us deputizing for AD this past fall. Her hard work has paid off, and it will be an unbelievable experience for her to compete with so many elite players. We are very fortunate to have two such talented goalkeepers on our squad.”
