STILLWATER, Okla. – After taking the individual title at the Hurricane Festival, Oklahoma State redshirt freshman Kirubel Erassa has been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week, the conference announced today.
Erassa, who finished the four-mile race in just 20:25, anchored the Cowboy's 3-0 dual mark at the event. The first-place finish came in his first cross country event as a Cowboy. It is his first weekly conference award.
Erassa has already begun to build an impressive resume while at OSU. He travelled to Eugene, Ore. in July to take part in the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he registered two top five finishes.
He placed fourth in the 1,500-meter race in 3:49.95, which marked a personal best and was just more than a second off of the leader's time. He completed the 5,000 meters in 14:37.55, good for fifth place.
Erassa and the Cowboys return to action on Oct. 1 when they compete in the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater.
