NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma State continued its winning ways and extended several impressive streaks with a 3-0 victory over Bedlam-rival Oklahoma Friday night in front of a record 2,002 fans at John Crain Field.
With the win, the No. 2 Cowgirls improved to 14-0-0 and 3-0-0 in Big 12 Conference play. The 14 consecutive wins sets a school record for longest unbeaten streak, and OSU also extended its record winning streak to 14.
And OSU continued its dominance over the Sooners. The Cowgirls are now unbeaten in their last 10 matches against OU and are 9-0-1 during that streak.
"It's pretty surreal at times; it's a credit to the girls and all the hard work they've put in," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael of the 14-0-0 start to the season. "This one tonight was about our seniors. I'm really proud of the fact that they've never lost to OU. They're very proud of that record. They wanted to come down here and make a statement, and they did."
OSU junior goalie AD Franch recorded five saves in the match for her fourth shutout of the season 24th of her career, and three different Cowgirls notched goals. OSU has now outscored its opponents 37-4 on the season.
OU (5-7-0, 0-1-0) had the first scoring opportunity just over three minutes into the match when Dria Hampton was awarded a free kick and delivered a shot from 28 yards out, but Franch made a diving save.
The Cowgirls struck first on Kyndall Treadwell's third goal of the season, which came in the 11th minute. Krista Lopez sent a pass through the box to Treadwell, and the senior blasted a left-footed shot to the near post past a diving Kelsey Devonshire to put OSU up 1-0.
OSU doubled its lead at the 30:22 mark. On a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, Taylor Mathews lofted a pass that Devonshire deflected. Carson Michalowski was there to send the ball into the net for her second goal of the year to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage.
Hampton had another scoring opportunity with just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening half, but her 25-yard blast was saved again by a diving Franch.
Leading 2-0 at intermission, Franch made another big save early in the second half, again corralling a shot by Hampton to keep the Sooners off the scoreboard.
The Cowgirls added to their lead with their final goal in the 55th minute. This time it was Sarah Brown collecting a cross from Megan Marchesano and delivering a 12-yard shot to the far post for her fourth goal of the season and a 3-0 OSU lead.
OSU returns to action next week when the Cowgirls travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State Friday night.
