2011-12 Schedule
STILLWATER, Okla. – OSU wrestling coach John Smith announced the Cowboys' 2011-12 schedule today, with several of the best teams in the sports set to take on the 34-time NCAA champions.
At least eight teams ranked in last year's final NWCA/USA Today poll are set to visit Gallagher-Iba Arena, including Rutgers (Nov. 18), Missouri (Nov. 20), Minnesota (Dec. 4), Iowa State (Jan. 22) and Oklahoma (Feb. 16), as well as Boise State, Nebraska and Wyoming in the NWCA Championships on Feb. 12. The Cowboys could host more of the nation's elite if they advance past the opening round of that event.
OSU opens the season Nov. 13 with the Central Missouri Open tournament in Warrensburg, Mo. From there, the Cowboys return to Stillwater to open dual play with Rutgers and Missouri.
The first road dual comes Nov. 25 against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames. OSU then hosts Minnesota Dec. 4 before beginning a long road stretch with a Dec. 11 Bedlam matchup in Norman, where the Cowboys look to improve on their 128-26-10 all-time advantage over the Sooners.
That road stretch continues Dec. 19 with the Reno Tournament of Champions, which regularly features some of the best teams from across the country. The Cowboys go to Boise State Dec. 30, Wyoming Jan. 1 and wrap up the road stretch Jan. 8 at Iowa, who has won three of the past four national championships. The Cowboys and Hawkeyes had a hard-fought 15-15 tie in 2010, but OSU has won nine of the last 12 matchups in the series.
The Arizona State dual on Jan. 20 marks the beginning of a five-dual home stand that includes Iowa State Jan. 22, NC State Jan. 27, and Binghamton and Bucknell Jan. 29.
The Cowboys then visit Missouri in Columbia Feb. 4 before hosting the NWCA Championship Regional in Stillwater Feb. 12. In addition to host Oklahoma State, Boise State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Tennessee-Chattanooga will also compete in the event.
The regular season wraps up with Bedlam in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Feb. 16, with the possibility of competition on Feb. 19 in the NWCA Championship Final Round.
The Pokes defend their Big 12 title when they compete at the conference championships March 3 in Columbia. From there, OSU looks to reclaim its status as America's top team when the Cowboys suit up for the NCAA Championships March 15-17 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
