Mercer Named To Team USA

DURHAM, N.C. - Former Oklahoma State star Jordy Mercer has been named to the USA Baseball 2011 World Cup/Pan Am Team roster, it was announced today.
Mercer and the 23 other Team USA players will compete in the IBAF Baseball World Cup in Panama City, Panama on Oct. 2-15, as well as the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Oct. 20-25. The U.S. roster features 24 players not currently on Major League Baseball 40-man rosters.
A star for the Cowboys from 2006-08, Mercer previously played for Team USA in 2007 and helped the team win a silver medal at the Collegiate Pan Am Games in Brazil. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round of the 2008 MLB Draft. Still a member of the Pirates' organization, he began 2011 in Double-A before finishing the season in Triple-A, where he hit .239 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 60 games as a shortstop for the Indianapolis Indians.
