STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden is one of 31 quarterbacks on the preseason watch list for the Manning Award, it was announced today. The winner will be announced after the bowls in January and will be honored at a ceremony in New Orleans.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
Weeden earned All-Big 12 first-team accolades in 2010 after setting school records with 4,277 passing yards and 34 touchdowns. He led the Cowboys to the best year in school history, as OSU capped an 11-2 season with a win over Arizona in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Weeden enters the 2011 season with a career pass efficiency rating of 155.42 to rank fourth among active quarterbacks, trailing only Boise State's Kellen Moore, Stanford's Andrew Luck and Houston's Case Keenum.
