STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State football team practiced twice on Monday, enduring a physical morning session, then coming back in the evening for a lighter version that focused on correcting errors. After the evening practice, reigning Big 12 Coach of the Year Mike Gundy shared his thoughts:
On Monday's two practices
"It was a good double day. We had a good, physical practice this morning for three hours, then we came out here tonight and corrected a lot of mistakes. We worked on special teams and threw in a little seven-on-seven. I think the players are really tuned-in mentally. We're at that stage where guys have to push through things right now if they want to be out there playing in the first game."
On his emphasis for the week
"Our emphasis this week is to get those players in the middle of the row ready to play. Joe Mitchell, Christian Littlehead, Nigel Nicholas, Hubert Anyiam - players that didn't compete as much in games that need to make plays for us to be able to win this year. The middle of the row guys are the ones we need to get ready to play."
On if this is a "moving week" for players looking to earn early playing time
"It is a moving week for us. There are 10, 15, 20 guys that need to have eight more good practices before we start school. If that takes place, it will give us a great chance to compete and win and play well early in the season. If not, then you're going to rely on the guys that carry the load all the time and at some point, you can get them run down prior to October or November. That's why it takes a group effort. We're at that point right now. Fortunately, we're healthy and guys are competing."
