IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State was picked to finish third in the conference this year in the 2011 Big 12 Football Preseason Poll, voted on by media representatives who cover the conference.
The Cowboys were nearly chosen as the second-place finishers with 360 total points, but were edged by Texas A&M with 362. OSU was also one of only three teams to receive a first-place vote.
While only two points separated Oklahoma State from being ranked second, the Cowboys' 79-point advantage over fourth-place Missouri was the widest gap between two rankings.
OSU, TAMU and OU tied for the South division title in 2010, which marked the final season of division standings.
