FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden has been named to the 2011 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List, which was announced today by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
Weeden, who will be a senior for the Cowboys this season, is one of 38 players on The O'Brien Watch List. The award is given annually to the nation's best college quarterback, and candidates are evaluated on their quarterback skills/athletic ability, academics, team spirit, character, leadership and sportsmanship.
The 2010 season saw Weeden blossom into one of the nation's top quarterbacks as he earned All-Big 12 Conference First Team honors after a record-setting performance for the Cowboys. In his first year as a starter, Weeden set school records with 34 touchdown passes, 4,277 passing yards and 4,209 yards of total offense.
Weeden recorded four of the top seven passing games in OSU history in 2010, including a record 435-yard effort against Baylor. His 337 passing yards per game ranked third in the NCAA last season, and he finished fourth nationally in touchdown passes.
In 2011, Weeden will engineer an offense that returns 10 starters and averaged 44.2 points and 520.2 yards per game last season.
