NWCA Championships Format Released

STILLWATER, Okla. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced Tuesday a new format for the NWCA/Cliff Keen Division I National Dual Meet Championships, for which Oklahoma State will host one of four regional competitions in February at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Under the new format, four schools will serve as regional hosts with one team from each region advancing to the championship round.
In previous years, the event has been contested over a two-day period in a 16-team bracket at one location.
The teams for the 2012 event were selected based primarily off the final 2010-11 NWCA Team Rankings as determined by the NWCA Coaches Poll.
Although exact dates and times are not set, all regional competitions will occur during the weekend of Feb. 11, 2012. The final championship round will feature the dual meet team champion from each of the four regions and will be conducted on the campus of a participating team on the weekend of Feb. 19, 2012.
The top twenty-four teams for the 2012 event have been selected and placed into four regions of six teams (the first team listed is the host team):
- Oklahoma State, Boise State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Tennessee-Chattanooga.
- Midwest (host TBD), Iowa, Iowa State, Oregon State, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Northern Iowa.
- Cornell, Central Michigan, Oklahoma, Purdue, Illinois, and American.
- Rutgers, Minnesota, Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, and Cal Poly.
