Five Cowboys To Compete at U.S. Open

STILLWATER, Okla. - Five players with Oklahoma State ties will participate in the U.S. Open this week at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The event will get underway on Thursday and will run through Sunday.
Current Cowboy Peter Uihlein will be the first to go off. The reigning U.S. Amateur champion will go off at 7:55 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with defending U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell and 2010 British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen. The OSU senior-to-be will be making his second major championship start of the year after taking part in The Masters last spring. The Orlando, Fla., native also tied for 57th earlier this year at the PGA Tour's Transitions Championship.
Joining Uihlein in the field will be former Cowboys Bo Van Pelt, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan and Alex Norén.
Van Pelt will get started at 1:02 p.m., while Fowler and Mahan will play with Ian Poulter and will tee off at 1:57 p.m. Norén will begin his first round at 2:30 p.m.
Van Pelt has made four previous starts at the U.S. Open. The first of his two top 10s this season came at The Masters where he tied for eighth place.
Mahan has played in five U.S. Opens with his best finish coming in 2009 when he finished sixth. Fowler has made two previous U.S. Open starts, including the 2008 event where he tied for 60th as an amateur.
Making his first U.S. Open start, Norén enters the event fresh off a victory at the European Tour's Saab Wales Open.
