OSU In Regional Play
OSU has won eight regional titles dating back to 1989. That year, the three-regional system was implemented and used until 2008. During that time, the Cowboys competed in the Central Regional every year, winning titles in 1989, 1990, 1997, 2002, 2003 and 2006. Two years ago marked the first time a six-regional format was used. OSU hosted the South Central Regional and won its seventh regional title. Last year, the Cowboys took the top spot at the Southeast Regional. The event also signaled the eighth time a Cowboy has claimed medalist honors at the event with Peter Uihlein finishing first. Kevin Wentworth (1989, 1990), Alan Bratton (1995), Bo Van Pelt (1997), Jonathan Moore (2006) and Kevin Tway (2008, 2009) have also been regional medalists.
Regional Rewind ... 2010 Southeast Regional
The Cowboys extended their record string of NCAA Championship appearances to 64-straight berths with their victory at the NCAA Southeast Regional at Capital City Club's Crabapple Course. The Cowboys closed with a 3-under 277 at the par-70, 7,182-yard layout to finish at 841, 1-over, and two shots ahead of Clemson. In addition to earning their fifth win of the season, the victory was OSU's eighth regional title and second consecutive after capturing the South Central Regional crown on its home course, Karsten Creek, last year. For the third consecutive year, the Cowboys also produced the medalist in their respective regional with Peter Uihlein coming from behind with a final-round 68 to finish at 4-under 206. Uihlein played even-par golf over his final five holes to secure his team-leading third victory of the year. Morgan Hoffmann fired his second-straight 69 to move into a tie for third place at 209. The finish marked the third consecutive top 10 for the Wyckoff, N.J., native and was his best showing since tying for third at the Gifford Collegiate in November. Kevin Tway, who claimed medalist honors in each of his first two career regional appearances, finished among the group tied for 17th place at 213 after posting a closing 69. For the third consecutive day, Trent Whitekiller carded a 71 to finish among the players with a 213 total as well. Sean Einhaus' 72 tied him for 34th place at 218.
