STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State All-American runner Mindaugas Pukstas won the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon today in 2:31.33. He edged second-place finisher Scotty Downard for the title, as Downard finished in 2:31.40.
The race was run in poor conditions, with temperatures in the low-40s and a constant rain and wind with periods of hail.
In addition to earning cross country All-America and all-Big 12 honors for Oklahoma State in 2003, Pukstas was also honored as an all-academic performer for the Pokes that same year, earning the distinction from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
He was the top cross country runner for the Cowboys in 2003, leading the team to the Midwest regional title, a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships and a 16th-place showing at the NCAA Championships. He placed 11th in the nation that season.
Pukstas is still around the OSU program, as he is married to current Oklahoma State jumps coach Zivile Pukstiene.
