IRVING, Texas - The Big 12 Conference has announced that the Oklahoma State Cowboys will host the Oklahoma Sooners in a Bedlam football battle that will take place on Dec. 3, 2011.
ABC will televise the game with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 or 7 p.m. (central). The Cowboys-Sooners matchup now occupies one of the ABC broadcast windows on what has evolved into "Championship Saturday" and will take place on the same day that the Big 12 Conference had traditionally played its conference title game.
"The Big 12 Conference has moved into a new era," said OSU athletic director Mike Holder. "We are excited to host Bedlam on one of the biggest days of the college football season."
The Bedlam football series has been an on-again, off-again Thanksgiving tradition throughout its history. The game between the state's two Big 12 entries was last played outside of the Thanksgiving weekend in 2004 when it was contested on Oct. 30.
Bedlam will take place in Stillwater for a second straight season as the Big 12 moves into a conference schedule that features nine games instead of eight.
Oklahoma State is coming off an 11-2 season that saw the Cowboys earn a share of the Big 12 South championship and a win in the Valero Alamo Bowl. OSU finished No. 10 in the USA Today coaches' poll. It was OSU's first top-10 finish since 1984 and the first 11-win season in school history.
