BRYAN, Texas- The Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated the Baylor Bears, 10-5, in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship Friday.
"I couldn't be more proud of the attitude of the team right now," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Entering the postseason with a team coming together like they have was something I hope would happen."
The Cowgirls were lead by the western team, who rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Bears, including a 4-0 drubbing in reining. Christy McElreath, Caroline Daniels, Rachel Houchin and Brianna Parnell all earned head-to-head wins for the Pokes. Marissa Dalton and Mamie Tomlin added two wins in horsemanship to lock up the victory for the Pokes.
The hunt seat team held their own as they tied Baylor, 4-4. Alice White and Sammy Elser picked up wins for the Cowgirls. Ellie Sparks continued her hotstreak as she picked up head-to-head wins in both equitation on the flat and equitation over fences.
The win gave Oklahoma State a 2-1 advantage over the Bears this season. The Cowgirls will take on the host Tecas A&M Aggies in the championship matchup tomorrow at 10 a.m. The top-seeded Aggies defeated the No. 4 seed Kansas State Wildcats, 10-6. The Cowgirls and Aggies split a pair of regular season matchups, with each team winning at home.
"We look forward to the championship round tomorrow," Sanchez said. "Texas A&M is a good team but we are at the top of our game and I think our girls are ready."
