Cowgirls Knock Off Top-Ranked Aggies

STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 4 Oklahoma State equestrian team (6-2) knocked off the top-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 15-8, at Animal Science Arena Sunday.
"It's always good when you can take one from the No. 1 team in the country," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "I am so proud of the way our girls rode today."
The hunterseat team led the charge with a decisive 9-2 victory over the Aggies. They opened the day with a 4-1 win in equitation over fences. Ellie Sparks earned a team-high 79 in the first ride of the day, giving the Cowgirls an early advantage. The next two head-to-head rides resulted in a tie and a point for the Aggies, knotting up the score before Erin Prutow, Hannah Beresford and Alice White rattled off three-straight points to win the discipline.
The Cowgirls stayed hot on the English side as they rolled to a 5-1 win in equitation on the flat. Ellie Sparks, Ali Rose, Andrea Robbins, Sarah Gesick and Jordan White all picked up head-to-head victories as the Pokes handed the Aggies their biggest loss of the season in the hunterseat. Robbins' ride earned her MVP honors, the first of her career at Oklahoma State.
Texas A&M won the first two head-to-head matchups in reining before junior Caroline Daniels picked up the Cowgirls' first win in the discipline and MVP honors, her second of the season. The teams traded points in the next two matchups, as Christy McElreath came away with a slim 70-69.5 victory. In the final showdown of the discipline, junior Rachel Houchin earned a 75-74 win to ensure a 3-3 tie.
The Cowgirls saw similar results in horsemanship as the discipline ended in a 3-3 deadlock. The Aggies came away with a 2.5 point victory after going to the raw scores. Ashley Kennedy, Lauren Halvorson and Katie Ralph all earned head-to-head victories for the Pokes.
Oklahoma State held a 12-5 advantage entering the final discipline of the day, ensuring a team victory for the Cowgirls.
The loss was the first of the season for the previously unbeaten Aggies. OSU is the only team to score double figures against Texas A&M this season, and has achieved that feat in both matchups between the two. The Cowgirls improved to 6-2 on the season with the win and 4-2 in Big 12 play. The 15 points scored were the most the Pokes have scored all season.
