Postgame Quotes vs. Texas A&M
Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011
OSU Head Coach Travis Ford
On the game
"We just kicked ourselves in the foot all night. It was us; we just kicked ourselves in the foot. It was amazing we had the lead with however many seconds it was to go because we made way too many mistakes tonight to even be in this basketball game."
On the final minute of the game
"Obviously you should know better than to foul in that situation, especially 84 feet from the basket. Reger (Dowell) did a lot of good things in the game and that definitely wasn't what cost us the game. You fight so hard just to get to that point but there were so many more mistakes than just that."
On the team
"Our guys show fight. If there's one thing we do, we will fight back. We'll make many mistakes and then we'll fight back."
On the play of Reger Dowell
"I thought he played well against Texas so I thought we'd give him a shot. He played well and made some big shots."
OSU Junior Guard Keiton Page
On the end of the game
"Reger (Dowell) came down, made a couple big plays and got us up one. We had a silly foul against their best free-throw shooter and he did a good job stepping up to the line and knocking both of them down."
On the disappointment
"It's a huge disappointment. We had to have this game. We're at home with our crowd. We're tough to beat here in Gallagher(-Iba Arena), so it's disappointing to lose this type of game in our own gym."
On the teams' early foul trouble
"We were doing a lot of things in the first half and we put them in the bonus. It seems like everytime we did start catching our rhythm, we did make a little comeback - we'd be down one, or even tie the game, go up one - we'd put them on the free throw line. Early in the game, that's how they got a lot of their points. That's how they put us in a deficit, and it's something we've got to stay away from."
OSU Sophomore Guard Reger Dowell
On his game
"I was just trying to help my team. That's really all I did. I did everything I could."
On the foul called against him at the end of the game
"I was honestly just being a little over-aggressive. I looked up at the clock, there was about 13 or 14 seconds left, I figured I'd cut him off at the half court line and make him change direction to slow his momentum down and take a few more seconds off the clock. Instead, he kind of used his momentum against me and got the contact and flopped. The ref called it. It was a bone-headed mistake on my part."
Texas A&M Head Coach Mark Turgeon
Opening Statement
"First of all, I thought that Oklahoma State played with their backs against the wall and played hard. Their defense was tremendous. I thought their crowd was phenomenal tonight from the opening tip to the very end. I thought they were in to it and they made it look difficult on us and they inspired their team. I don't want to say it was pretty, because it was ugly at times to watch it, but it was a heck of a college basketball game. There were a lot of lead changes, and we just got fortunate. We got B.J. Holmes to the line there and he was able to knock them down. We haven't been shooting free throws well, but we shot them well down the line in the second half. We just got that one last stop and got it done. It looked like Matt Pilgrim was going to have a dunk and Dash Harris just stripped him. It is a great win for us because we knew OSU had their backs against the wall and they played like it."
On the key to success in tonight's game
"I think what really helped us tonight is that we have been in so many close games and we are used to it. It showed down the stretch for us."
On David Loubeau stepping up
"It was good to get David going. I was mad at him for missing that little jump-hook in the lane, but he was seven for nine in the game and we expected him to make every shot."
On Reger Dowell
"Reger Dowell tried to win the game single-handily, he was fantastic. We had no answer for him. We weren't sure if he was going to play or not. He changed the whole game. He changed their whole offense, he changed everything. He made big free throws for them. He was good."
Texas A&M Sophomore Forward Khris Middleton
On starting the game slow
"Basically we just had to stay with it even though you know you're not playing well at the beginning of the game. Gotta just keep playing team basketball. I think I did that and at the end of the game I just found some spots that I could just make plays."
On the play of David Loubeau
"David pretty much carried us this whole game. He pretty much just put us on his back and we just kept trying to find them and trying to get him the ball and letting him go to work dpwn low. I think he was able to do that."
Texas A&M Junior Forward David Loubeau
On playing well down low
"Coach emphasized that at the start of the game and our offense wasn't really running so he emphasized pounding it in and going on the offensive glass."
On having a career performance
"It was just an amazing game for me. I actually knocked down most of all my free throws and something I couldn't do a year ago. It was just my night really."
