STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State scored all of its runs in the first three innings, and Andrew Heaney turned in a strong performance on the mound as the Cowboys picked up their second-straight shutout with a 13-0 win over Bryant Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Heaney allowed just two hits in seven innings of work and tied a career high with eight strikeouts. After holding the Bulldogs hitless over the first 4.2 innings, the sophomore southpaw gave up an infield single with two outs in the fifth.
The Cowboys' offense would provide plenty of run support for Heaney, and the home team wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Davis Duren led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and two batters later, Zach Johnson made the score 1-0 with an RBI single. OSU tacked on two more runs in the frame on an RBI double by Luis Uribe and an RBI groundout off the bat of Mark Ginther.
OSU exploded for five runs in each of the next two innings. After Gabe Weidenaar led off the second with a single, Hunter Bailey blasted the Cowboys' first home run of the season, a line drive shot over the wall in left field to put the home team up by a 5-0 margin.
The Cowboys weren't done as they sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning. Uribe continued his hot hitting with a two-RBI double, while Dane Phillips added an RBI on one of his four hits in the contest.
In the third, OSU would once again bat around and put up five runs, getting RBI hits from Jared Womack, Devin Shines and Johnson.
OSU racked up 19 hits in the contest, with eight of the nine Cowboys in the lineup recording a hit. Phillips finished the contest 4-for-5 at the plate, while Uribe collected three RBIs for the second consecutive game. Duren had three hits in five trips to the plate and also scored three runs.
The Cowboys will look to sweep the series in Sunday's finale, which is scheduled to begin at noon.
